Oscillating between present & past, hallucination & reality, "You Were My First Boyfriend" is a hybrid documentary that explores the power of adolescent fantasy, the subtle violence of cultural assimilation, & the fun house mirror of time's passage. The design enters memories that won't let go, the haunting obsessions with false narratives & the yearning to manifest magic. The punchy color palette referenced our Florida locations & Cecilia's 1990's girlhood there. I was able to revisit the horrors of middle school with artists who honor memory through play.
